Tentative Summer Calendar for 2009

Family Gathering with Picnic Potluck – June 13^th at St. Anne School starting at Noon.

The gathering will start with an evaluation of the past year’s programs, suggestions for next year, and prayer. The grounds will be open for a family activity for example blooper ball, kickball, etc. If raining we can use the gym. The meat and drinks will be provided we are asking the families to bring a dish to pass. Please RSVP to Luann Hugo or Jeff Buczek.

Cedar Point – June 16^th 5:15 a.m. – 12:30 am. The cost of the trip is $70 for Cedar Point and Bus Transportation, $18 for Soak City. If you only plan to go to Soak City you will need to add an additional $40 for bus transportation. If you have season passes to Cedar Point you will only need to pay bus transportation. Additional information is on enclosed registration form. A medical release form is also required. There is a $10 late fee for registrations after June 7^th.

St. Valentine Parish Picnic - July 24^th & 25^th There are a variety of activities you can help at and earn your volunteer hours at the same time. These activities include a country auction, kid games, concession stand, etc. If you are interested in helping during this weekend event please contact Brandon Krause at 662-7555 or St. Valentine Parish office at 662-6843 for more information.

St. Anne Parish Festival – July 30^th, 31^st and August 1^st If you are interested in helping at this event please contact St. Anne Parish Office at 697-4443 or Luann Hugo. There are a variety of activities you can help at: the food tent, ice cream booth, children’s game tent, etc. You can earn your high school volunteer hours while working at one of these activities. We are looking for ideas for a youth sponsored table – craft ideas, face painting, etc. (We will need youth to work at the table.)

Golf Outing – August 6^th This is the tentative date for a 4-person golf outing. Watch bulletins for more details

Pickle Festival – August 20^th – 22^nd St. Anne Youth for the past few years has made a float for the Pickle Festival Parade. They would like to invite the youth at Sacred Heart and St. Valentine to join them in building the float and participating in the parade. We are also looking for some parents to help with the project. If interested in helping please contact Luann Hugo. The parade is on August 21^st @ 10:00 a.m. Please call as soon as possible if interested so we can set up a meeting to select a topic.

Medical Release Form – A medical release form must be on file for each youth participating in any Youth Gathering or Youth Sponsored Event. A copy is enclosed in this mailing. You can bring it with you to the next event or send it to Luann Hugo – 317 W Center St., Linwood, MI 48634. Luann will forward a copy to Jeff for the youth participating at Sacred Heart or Saint Valentine.

Diocesan Sponsored Events

Youth Encounter Saginaw – June 20^th – 25^th - We have 4 youth who have registered to participate in this week long event in Saginaw. There are 2 from Sacred Heart and 2 from St. Anne Parish.

Teen Leadership Conference – The diocese will be offering training in leadership the week of August 1^st – 6^th at Hartley Nature Center in St. Charles, Michigan. The cost is $230; the parishes will help with the cost. This camp is being offered to youth in grades 10-12 who have an interest in leadership or are currently involved as a leader. This week will work on honing and fine tuning leadership in Catholic. If you are interested in an application please contact Luann Hugo.

Saginaw Diocese Discipleship Camp will be held at YMCA Camp Timbers on August 15^th – 20^th for youth in grades 6^th – 8^th. The price of the camp is $230, there is financial assistance available. The camp activities will be based on the 7 Gifts of the Holy Spirit.

· Knowledge – Camp history and nature interpretive hike. Acclimatizing to a new environment.

· Wisdom – Teams course (low ropes) and sensory night hikes (eye opening experience)

· Piety – “Solo” quiet hour in the woods. Praise & Worship Songs. God’s eyes craft.

· Fortitude & Strength – High Ropes, climbing tower, zip-line

· Understanding – Teams Course part 2. Diversity, handicap awareness lunch.

· Wonder & Awe – Team canoeing challenge, relays, stargazing at night.

· Counsel – Trust walks, snapshot activity/affirmation activity, blue raggers ceremony at night.

World Youth Day Madrid 2011 with the Holy Father. WYD is the chance for youth from around the world to meet, make friends and learn from each other. The Diocese of Saginaw encourages you to be a part of this great event. Two pilgrim tours are being offered. 1)Aug 13-22, 2011 - $2150, 2) Aug 9 – 22, 2011 - $3300.
